In 1997, one month to the day after Triangle PR first opened its doors for business, Wing Commander Andy Green drove, piloted or simply held on to a car that smashed the land speed record, achieving an awe-inspiring, supersonic speed of 763 mph.
1,000 mph
Now, the team behind the ThrustSSC that set the record is aiming to go one step further and break the 1,000 mph barrier. This time, Triangle PR is part of that attempt, having signed a 12-month, five figure sponsorship deal in 2010 as an SME sponsor.

Triangle PR and Bloodhound SSC
The car that will be used for the new record attempt is the Bloodhound SSC. As it thunders past the sound barrier (around 760 mph; the speed of sound varies slightly depending on the ambient temperature) towards its top speed of 1,050 mph, the car will be driven, once again, by Andy Green. Richard Noble, OBE (a former land speed record holder himself) will lead the team as he successfully did with ThrustSSC.
Unique
So why did Triangle want to be part of it? Simple. There’s nothing else like it. Sure you can sponsor a football team, a racing car or golf competition, but there’s hundreds if not thousands of them. There’s only one (as far as we know) British team making an attempt on the land speed record. What’s more it’s totally pioneering – like going to the moon, conquering Everest or reaching the South Pole. Even with these achievements, they’ve been done many times before. Nobody has sat in a car travelling at 1,000 mph before. Ever.

To be a part of that makes us different to any other PR company out there. And as you’ll frequently hear us say: If you’re not different, you’re just ‘me too’. And that’s no way to get yourself noticed ahead of your competitors.
Suits you, sir
Furthermore, we see in Bloodhound, many of the qualities we value in ourselves and the way we operate: the pursuit of excellence, a desire to inspire, attention to the smallest detail, and the passion to be the best at what we do. As brand identity goes, that makes it a good match. The fact that it’s something we can genuinely get excited about, looks good and is pretty cool to have as part of your credentials is a bonus. Come to think of it, that’s another three things we also try to bring to our work.

And one more thing
As we said, this is the only British team taking on the land speed record. However, there are one or two other competitors on the radar. Two of the cars are American: The North American Eagle and the Fossett LSR and the other one is Australian: the Aussie Invader 5R. Now, to break the land speed record and beat the Aussies and Americans at the same time. Worth a punt, wouldn’t you say?
